             ALIVE Newsletter No.101
              Topic
            The Year of “No More”
Last year, we witnessed a series of unfolding disasters, including
the Great East Japan Earthquake and the accident at the Fukushima
Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, and a huge number of people and animals
became victims of these disasters. The nuclear power plant accident
was a manmade disaster and it is heartbreaking to face the reality
of the situation and to appreciate that it will take decades to
recover. In this new year, we should all commit ourselves to a future
of “life without nuclear power.” We should also come
up with new ways of thinking that do not rely on the current science-obsessed
and consumer-oriented economic system and we should say “no
more” to the things that comprise our heartless society. It
is time for us to take a close look at the way we live, our food,
health, medical treatment and welfare programs. We need to create
the society that does not oppress innocent people and animals.

How can we make it? What kind of society should we be trying to
create? I believe that the answer to these questions is to create
a society where all living things can be happy according to their
biological needs and based on biodiversity.

ALIVE will keep hoping to make this ideal society a reality by working
with others who hold similar beliefs. We wish you a very happy new
year and we thank you for you continuing support.
