Need Education on Ethical Treatment of Animals

I often hear two particular expressions used when talking about animals, “kawaiso” (expressing compassion) and “kawaii”(expressing the idea that one considers an animal to look cute). Some people think that the puppies in the showcases at pet shops are “kawaii” and some think “kawaiso.” The feeling of “kawaii” derives from the interests toward the object and the feeling of “kawaiso” derives from the feeling of compassion and sympathy toward the object. Compassion and sympathy are very important sensibilities to have, when helping animals. Both “kawaii” and “kawaiso” are important emotions. I, however, often wonder if everything can be expressed by these two words. It is very important to know what animals really want and feel. I truly believe that animal welfare won’t exist, unless there is a proper understanding of animals.
